This Master’s programme examines key issues from both a business and economic perspective, including how multinational corporations leverage financial markets when seeking to exploit international business opportunities, the management challenges presented, and the relevance of these to financial and capital markets. Three workplace learning subjects provide students with the opportunity to undertake a business placement in each of their three years of study (or equivalent). The expectations and outcomes associated with these subjects increases each year – for example, the length of placement will increase from 35 hours in Year 1 to 70 hours in Year 2 and 120 hours in Year 3. Placements may occur in practicum blocks or a dedicated regular time through the session. Students will be expected to make a meaningful contribution that will benefit the business and enhance the student’s key employability skills. The focus of each of the workplace learning subjects will be the nexus between theory (what the student will be learning in their studies) and practice (what actually happens in the workplace).
Our Business Management and Finance programme combines coverage of the key business areas from finance and marketing, through to strategy and human resources, with the opportunity to study specialist subjects, including business law, management consultancy and digital business. There are numerous opportunities to undertake a work placement as part of your degree, allowing you to combine academic theory with practical work experience.
Students completing the work placement option will have a competitive edge in pursuing careers as high-level analysts, economists and managers in financial institutions, governments, financial regulators, business companies and central banks, as well as international organisations. The Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is granted from the Institute of Management Accountants for those who have completed a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of management accounting experience.
In the following year you’ll learn more about research methods in international business and go into more depth on the challenges and strategies related to managing across cultures and countries. At the same time, you’ll study corporate finance in depth and choose from optional modules on topics from specialist areas of economics to marketing and business history.
