Welcome to the Division of Business and Finance, ECSU’s lead organization for providing continuous business and fiscal support to the university. The Department of Economics and Finance is proud to be celebrating 20 years of taught postgraduate education in finance. Former students from our MSc programmes are now themselves teaching in the Australian Business School, EdHec Business School, Nice, Glasgow University and Oslo Business School. Other MSc students hold senior positions in financial institutions including the Bank of Cyprus, HSBC in Istanbul, Standard Life in the UK and TD Bank Financial Group in Canada.
The landscape for business and finance careers differs depending on which career people enter and where they live. In the following table, the growth prospects of several careers are outlined, along with the top states for jobs in those professions. Applicants with a 2.2 in a Management subject with a background in Economics or Maths (e.g. an A-level in Economics, Finance, Maths, Statistics, or 40 credits or above in Economics, Maths, or Statistics at university) will also be considered.
You will learn how to get started in this development; by searching for sources and developing essential research skills including reviewing literature and critical evaluation, before going onto develop you own critical literature review which represents the module assessment. This module aims to provide students with an understanding of the origins of Financial Markets, and with a broader appreciation of the early development of products and innovations in Finance – which many assume are recent twentieth century inventions.
